From the ascent from Monte Faito , Conocchia and the Molare along their southern side you reach the saddle before Monte Comune where the small village of Santa Maria al Castello , fraction of Vico Equense , at 670 meters above sea level.
Perched on the Vicenza hills, overlooking Positano , the village offers magnificent landscape views, from a unique geographical position. For centuries it has been an obligatory point of passage for people and merchandise; the only alternative was to circumnavigate the peninsula going as far as Punta Campanella . Today it is a very important crossroads for hikers: on the one hand the Alta Via dei Monti Lattari which connects the Faito to the Sorrento area of Monte Comune and Vico Equense , on the other Bomerano to reach the Path of the Gods and then Positano towards Montepertuso and locality Il Corvo with the paths “ Le Tese ”and“ Cape of water ”.
This village is a strategic point for hikers traveling along the Alta Via as a refreshment and supply point due to the presence of food shops, bars, restaurants and B & Bs. Point of historical and cultural interest is the church of Santa Maria del Castello.
From this village we set out again towards the climb to Monte Comune along the 300 CAI.
